Diversity, how kids see it

You already know that I am not a fan of colour segmentation by gender when it comes to kids clothing. I’m constantly encouraging Ilona to wear ‘’boy colours’’, blue, green and every other colour we’ve learned that is suitable for the opposite sex, but I’m not shy when it comes to giving Iancu a pink or red shirt to wear. I would be very happy if Ilona and Iancu would learn to appreciate diversity, in every given form, now that they are still young. They have to understand that labelling is not healthy, because it can only make us narrow minded.
There’s always been a dispute when it came to marriage between two people of the same gender and, honestly, I’m terrified when I see how narrow we can be and that we can’t accept things that are normal. In France, about ten years ago, nobody was looking weird at you because you were holding hands with a person of the same sex, for example. Love shouldn’t have limitations of any kind.

I would be very happy, for example, if a legal partnership between people of the same sex would be legal here, in Romania, my kids would come and say to me: ‘’ This is so cool, this girl has two dads or two moms!’’, not to think of it as an unnatural situation. Because we are thought from a young age to hate, without even knowing how and why we do it. And we don’t even question ourselves why, why just inherit the stubbornness.
When she chose today’s outfit, Ilona said to me: ‘’Maman, I’m sure that every girl will wear pink today, I’m so happy that I’m not going to fit in, I’m going to be myself!’’
Everything is showing that I’m on the right track. Don’t you think so, les filles?
