As they grow, both Iancu and Ilona, often leave me speechless. It is a pleasant feeling, but hard to explain, which confirms that we managed to raise them nice and that, in a few years, they’ll turn into the good people who I, and Nicolai also, want them to become – you know what I’m talking about, don’t you?
Ilona told me recently what she wants for her birthday and I almost burst into tears. She’s crazy about Elsa and all princesses of the world – it’s like I could see you approvingly nod as you read these lines, so are your girls, right? – so I already had an idea about the gift she might want. Well, I couldn’t be further away from the truth. “Maman, I want a really big-big-big cake that ca fit us all. Me, you, Iancu, papa, grandmother, grandfather, Jason (cousin) and Maria (the lady who takes care of them when Nicolai and I are busy)”. I didn’t know how to react because she took me by surprise and her words went straight to my heart. “Why do you want, mon amour, a picture with all of us on the cake for your birthday?”, is all I could ask her. “For everybody to see how beautiful we are and how we love each other, maman. C’est simple! Anyone can have a cake with Elsa, but not everyone has a family like ours !” Et voilà, what can I say? Ilona, 4 years and 11 months.
When it comes to clothes, we return to Elsa, again. I had to buy the blue dress as soon as she saw it, because it just reminded her about Elsa. Though, because her hair isn’t long enough to make her a braid as the princess has, I went on a contrasting yet with effect ribbon to keep under control her hair locks. A pair of boots with a soft rock theme – you know that Ilona doesn’t like to be TOO princess or TOO damsel – and mon ange is ready for kindergarten! “Maman, do you still think we should put Elsa on the cake? I wouldn’t want her to be upset”, she told me the next day, after she pondered about the situation. Ilona, simply Ilona!
